You want to have good exhaust manifold gaskets and good sealing to keep water out of the cylinders.

Gotcha. The gasket set I just ordered has this gasket in it so I might just as well use it. Also ordered 4 standard size Wiseco piston kits. Once I get these parts I should be able to put the powerhead back together and with any luck at all have a better motor than what I started with about 4 yrs ago. Motor has been problematic all along.

🤞

Another monkey wrench just got thrown into my rebuild project. I can't find any standard size Wiseco pistons, the place I ordered them from says they are on back order not to be received until probably August, boat part store .com. I have found standard size Mercury original pistons but can't find any rings for them.

If anyone knows of a place where I can get 4 standard size pistons and rings for my 1988 125 hp Force motor, I would very much appreciate any help in finding them.

I can get oversized all day long but that will add yet another $240 to the project, cost of boring the cylinders. Might eventually have to do this but I'm going to exhaust my search efforts first.

Thank you!

I think the OP wants to avoid hydraulic press in fit pistons, as the picture shows no circlip in those kits and was mentioned the OEM piston wrist pins are a press fit.

I believe I have found at least two websites that list the model of Wiseco pistons in stock in the US for standard bore size.

To avoid issues with mentioning specific retailers in the forum, I recommend spending more time on a more detailed search.

Using the Wiseco piston kit number for the standard piston size, you can rather quickly find listings.

Ok, thanks. I will try this. Or can you send the info to my email? sandysabin77@gmail.com I've looked through all of iboat but they have nothing I need.

Indeed you are correct. I found another source by doing exactly what you said. Provided they don't contact me and say they are out of stock like the last place I ordered them from. Thanks again.

Sandy-man, have you tried Franz Marine service?

Not yet but I'm about to. I just got an email from the place I ordered from yesterday stating they too are out of stock and don't know when they will get more due to oversea shipments are very limited at this time for obvious reasons. Apparently Wiseco pistons are made in another country, imagine that.

Wow, I've now ordered standard size Wiseco pistons from 4 different sources, including Amazon, that listed them. All 4 have cancelled the order because they don't have them in stock and not sure if they will ever get them again.

Then I finally found them, for sure this time, at Franz. Thanks, Nordin, I appreciate your help.

Ok, I've finally got all parts, needed tools and free time to finish this rebuild. What is the best gasket sealant to use for these motors? And as I understand it, sealant should not be used on the head gasket. Is that correct?

The gasket comes with sealer impregnated in it.
Depending on the condition of the head??? you might need
some in certain areas to make a good seal??
Check the head for warp?
Now that your gonna start a build? maybe start a new thread?
