125hp force with power issues

I have a 1985 force 125 hp on a 19 ft bayliner. I have little pwer in forward gear but plenty in revese. I did have new side panels replaced on the drivers side side of the boat. At this time i did have someone assemble the shifter back on the side panel. The motor runs great in neutral and reverse also when I take the cover off and "thumb" open the carbs it runs strong. Any suggestions? maybe cable stretched?????????

safetytruck2003;when you thumb open carbs for wot/full power the butterflys in carb throats should lay flat(wot).try this w/shifter(throttle cable) and see how butterflys react-should move w/ shifter until fully opened(wot)-if shifter wasnt relocated same it has an adjustment-Hopefully this will put you on the right track-if not keep trying the other members here are very knowledgable so let us know what you find.

safetytruck2003, sounds like CBU hit it on the head, if you can get full revs at the carbs but not from the shifter check the cables and adjustments, the fact that the shifter was removed/re-installed seems to point to the problem, good luck..........

Also, check the prop for a spun out hub. Take some white emamel or nail polish, and paint a thin line from the prop nut to the outer hub.<br />Take it for a spin after the paint dries. If it moved, you have a spun out hub.

Hi, I've just had a similar prob with my bayliner but with the gearshift, on the controls there is a selection of holes on the "crank arms" for the cables to go so you get differing amounts of travel,if the guy who put the panel and shift back together put the cable in one of the upper holes you may not be getting full throttle. On these engines the last 1/8" of cable travel takes you from 1/2 to full throttle so any maladjustment will be very noticeable. I would try taking the carb intake covers off and see if you can get those butterflys flat by adjusting the cable at the engine as the side panels where the controls are mounted are a pain to remove,you may find you end up altering the idle setting,if so you'll have to do it at the control end as mentioned.<br />Good Luck

P.S. the sidepanel mounting screws on mine are hidden in the joints of the padding!! Good Hunting!!
