12footer, 9.9 johnson does not rev in gear

The engine does not rev in gear nor in neutral. When I start to open the throtle it dies. I limped back to dock at, or very near idle. Anytime I tried to give it a little more gas it would just die. It would restart but would not run faster then an idle<br /><br />Hope this is enough info.<br />Thanks!!

Kinda hard to say, but my first attack to the problem would be to replace the plugs and try it. It won't be money lost,as you will want to carry an extra set with you in case it fouls on the water.<br />If the problem persists,it may be deris in the fuel filter (i think you'll find it next the the fuel pump,but not sure).<br /><br />It may be debris or water in the carb bowl, or debris in the pick up tube.<br />Also check the vent on the gas tank, by unscrewing the cap. <br />Sorry I can't be more specific, but a process of elimination is probably the best way to troubleshoot this one.
