Hello all I am new to iboats and I have a 12 hp wizard powermatic that will not shift into neutral.I started messing with the shifting level and thought it was in neutral fired it up and it ran full throttle and shot water everywhere haha. Anyway in tried messing with the lever again and forward and reverse works but it will not click into neutral. I looked at how it works and there is a small half moon with three small triangular cuts (to select what gear). Running down to the lower there is 2 set screws (two circular discs with 3 spiral teeth on them) that click together when I shift forward, do nothing when I put it in neutral, and when put it reverse they have about a 4 mm gap in between the screws. I am competent in mechanics but this is the first boat motor I've ever messed with ( I'm more into electronics)

Can anyone help me out please?

Re: 12hp wizard powermatic model wk7 neutral problem

Trying to picture that thing in my mind. All I can visualize it the Mercury Mark motors that it was derived from. The Mercs were notorious for not staying in neutral. And darned near impossible to make it "right".

Am I correct in I think you are saying it will go into neutral between forward and reverse, but won't "click" and stay in neutral? Yep, that's the old Mercury way. Personally, every time I thought I had one fixed, it would jump into gear and run over the pier (honestly, it did happen).

Yeah i can hear the clicks in between shifting gears but it will not go into neutral.....another tthing I noticed was if I tilted the motor up,shifted into reverse, and tilted the motor back down and tried to shift into forward the motor would angle down flush with the transom.....still doing some research and tinkering with it some more.....thanks for all your help everybody
