I want a new motor for my 13 ft dell quay (its the british version of the 13 ft boston whaler) with the steering console on the side. I want a motor in the 25hp to 40hp range. weight is the issue with passengers (crew), motor etc all in the back. 2 strokes are lighter right? or could i get a smaller horsepower 4 stroke? i would like to have a 4 stroke but i want whats best for me and the boat. ya'lls advice would be appreciated thanks in advance for your time and thoughts

Welcome to Iboats, What HP do you have on it now? 4 strokes are heavier. If you have a weight issue, I would stay with the 2 stroke. Im sure you will get more opinons.

My brother-in-law had a small Whaler about like yours with a 40HP Honda 4 stroke and it was a sweet ride, very smooth, quiet and fast. Depending on your power/weight requirements, a 25HP might work fine also. Good Luck!

25 is a good size/weight. 40 is very fast--is that what you are looking for?
Whalers with smaller engines are self-bailing--you can leave the plug out when it's moored and don't need a bilge pump. A larger engine will cause it to sit too low for that.

if money is no object, a 4 stroke 25 would be nice. If you plan to pull skiiers, go to 30-35.

I have an old 40 hp, 2-stroke on mine. It will be replaced (if it ever dies) with a motor of the same weight; nothing heavier. I have the disadvantage of a 15" transom and old wire cable and pulley steering, so I will be looking at a major transom re-do if I get out of the antique outboards.

If your buying new the Evinrude Etec is a direct injected 2 stroke.
All new injected motors are heavy 2 or 4 stroke.
The Etec is available in 25,30 and a starting weight of 147lbs weight goes up to 180+
depending on options. On a 700lb Carolina Skiff with 18 gals of fuel made 28 mph with one aboard and gear.Your Force will seem mighty light compared to present day motors but todays motors will outperform the Force easily.
