Any of you guys have an idea what the difference is in these two motors? I was comparing the two on shop evinrude.com ('95 130 and '94 140) and it looks like the only difference is the high speed jets and possibly the intake manifold? Although I have heard the intake mani's are cross compatible.

Cylinder heads, a little exhaust porting, carbs and jets....just a detuned 140.

From 1985 thru the 94 model year, OMC made both a 120 and 140 90 degree looper big bore. My guess is that they did not sell enough of either engine to make it worth their while to produce both engines. Somebody probably said, let's just make one-at 130 hp. As Flyingscott says, there is not much difference. Probably a marketing decision.

Thanks that makes a lot of sense!! Personally, I don't think I would have put a 130 on this boat as it has 150 on the tag. But this engine has a lot
Of torque and screams at wot. Boat weighs 2500, add two people, 40 gallon baitwell, 60 gallons of gas, and trim tabs and STILL tops out at 38MPH.

Here's the deal. The 120/130/140 engines weigh in at 378 lbs. A 150 V6 weighs in at 370. The V4 engine has 122 cubic inches. The V6 has 158. Even more torque. Which engine would you buy for torque and hp? Not the V4. Probably the only ones they sold were on boats that had a hp limit of 130 or 140 hp. Having said that, these 90 degree V4's were strong engines. And reliable. Just heavy for what they are.

Yea I was looking around for 150's and almost bought one instead of the reman powerhead for my 130, because of the weight/power ordeal.
