I am a total newbie to boating, but am a mechanic by trade. My question is I recently bought a 135 Strarflite and cannot find the engine ID anywhere, not on transom mount or on the silver tab on top of engine I have scoured this motor for any kind of ID and have found none. The cowl is red white and blue and says 135 starflite, im sure it is from the 70's because the wiring schematic in the service manual matches 135 hp 74 thru 78 this motor is in near perfect condition and i would like to keep that way. Any help would be great.

Re: 135 starflite

model identification 2.jpgIf the powerhead was ever replaced, the information on the casting plug on top of the engine may not be of much help. You may want to go out to the Bombardier parts catalog website. You can look through a number of their parts lists and identify the specific parts on your engine with the various year engine parts diagrams on their website. Check it out: epc.brp.com The cowling diagrams do show different decals and emblems which may be unique to a specific year, though the cowlings are easily swapped between years also. The early (1973) 135's may have been sold with power trim as an option. The later ones (1976) probably had it standard from the factory. Colors may also vary by year. Bombardier dealers have a paint chart in their Parts and Accessories book which may also help you determine the year, though the colors did not change much through those 135 model years. The attached picture is very similar to the casting plug you would see on your engine. This engine is a 1975 135.
