What would you suggest for HP. Just going to use the boat for perch and bass fishing around a mile off the shore of Lake Erie. Dont really plan on any watersports.
Too much horsepower is never enough--Seriously--If you are going a mile or so off shore on lake Erie, put the max the capacity plate allows. If something starts to blow up, you want to get back to shore FAST.

So what does the plate say ??
Lake Erie and a mile off shore ?? then you decide to go a little further as that is where they seem to be catching all the fish !!
Bad weather can arrive within a couple of minutes or even less out there. Go for the biggest motor you safely can.
Sorry I let you hanging......busy couple of days.
Max on the Tag is 45hp......I just bought a Merc 500 (50hp)....It should do.
Lake Erie can get really nasty really quick.....I've been out on my grandparents 22', 5-6 miles out and have slowed down so smaller boats (like mine) can follow inside the wake back to shore.
