if you check sizes for your application most props as the pitch goes down the diameter will go up.
I'm not up to Volvo nomenclature but I did look up Volvo props for 270 long and short hub.
Props with lower pitches had diameters 15 and more inches.
If you look up props for your setup if they are intended for your boat they phically will fit.

that makes sense to me....there are few choices for the old vp270 short shaft as far as I can see. thanks for the help. I see a prop that is left hand and I have a right hand now. I have adjusted the torque tab before so I figure I can redo it for a left hand with out a problem. Is it true that the lower unit does not care if the power/torque is clockwise or counter clockwise as the gear face is concerned?

There is a minor procedure to change rotation you can't just put a left hand prop on.
You would need to adjust torque tab as well.
The helm is put on the starboard side to counter the "Normal clockwise"prop torque.
A counter rotating prop may cause the boat to lean.
