found on craig list several s10, honda civic, tacoma, dodge truck tires/rims with 5 lugs and roughly same size tire. they range from $75-200 for all four. can i buy a set from one of these to replace the older ones i have on my double axel trailer, they sure would be a visual upgrade.

Short answer;
No.

Long answer;
Trailer tires have much stronger sidewalls than car tires, and are subsequently rated at higher loads for a given size.
Have a look at the load rating on the sidewall and you'll see what I mean.
Use only trailer rated tires on a trailer. On 13" and up, the designation is ST.

Lug patterns differ as well...as does "offest"....how far the wheel rides out from the hub. Get the wrong offset and your tire can rub against the fender etc.

If you have a double axle trailer you must have a rather heavy boat. Stay with ST rated tires for safety...and also (if you need another reason) to keep your insurance company from denying your claim if you wreck because of failure of non ST rated tires..... :(

Not only is the lug spacing different, that spacing can metric or SAE, and even the taper on the lug nuts can differ. You really need to be careful when wheel swapping these days. Then, as mentioned, there's the back spacing issue. Trailer wheels have the centerline of the tire over the hub face. Car/truck tires rarely have that configuration. Front drivers have the hub face closer to the outside of the wheel whereas rear drivers have the hub face closer to the inside of the wheel. Trailers need the proper wheel and tire.

Never use car tires on a trailer.

The wheels also have their own weight ratings...just like tires. I would not use a used wheel myself.

The 14" rims on my storage trailer, a tandem axle full roller Sea Lion, are from a Ford Aerostar, the tires are St rated trailer tires. The lug patter 5 on 4.5" is common to Ford passenger car and some Chrysler products. The offset is fine with the Aerostar/Ranger rims, a buddy of mine even took them to work and had them galvanized for me. They are at least as heavy as the original rims, which rotted away years ago. These have been on there for about 12 years now.

The original tires weren't ST rated, that trailer came with standard bias ply tires. They were just super heavy duty. I only use it to store a boat for the off season, and it only travels a few miles a year, so for me, the tires aren't all that important. It will never see highway use or any real speeds. I have ST rated tires on it only because they were free.
