Have an '86 3.0 140 hp. Service manual says either Delco or Prestolite distributor and they have different point gap settings. How can I tell which Distributor I have? Thanks, Kurt

If the distributor is not marked with a metal tag then you'll have to go buy the shape/design of the cap...Mostly the bottom side.

Old Merc cap part number 9459 = Delco, http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw...uiser&_sacat=0

Old Merc cap part number 810827 = Prestolite http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw...uiser&_sacat=0

Inside the following link is an image of a Delco installed with the cap on and removed, You'll have to click on the pdf's though,

Also the Prestolite points attach with one screw but the Delco has two screws.

set a points system at .018 and you`ll be just fine

and if you dont have feeler gauges, thats a dollar bill folded over on itself twice (4 layers) or take a match book cover or manila file folder and fold it over once (2 layers)
