I have found out that there are different drive shaft part numbers for different modle years of the 140 hp V4. My motor is a CE140TLCEB. Are all the splines the same or did they have different splines for different years of the 140Hp drive shaft.

Most change's to the 140 shaft are on the bottome end, such as, some 140's used the V-6 gearcase

Re: 140 Hp drive shaft splines

I have a 1985 140hp Johnson. It has the 13 spline gearcase. Many people have told me that this model year had the 15 spline V6 gearcase. Maybe it has been changed over the years or maybe not. There again my handbook states that it should have a 13 spline !!!!
Who knows. I see that yours is a 1989 model. What do you have splinewise ???

The 25" gearcase was a 15 spline propshaft. Your 20" was a 13.

The 25" inch was larger but did not have the same gear ratio as most of the V6 motors.

Both gearcases on the V4 loopers had the same splines at the crank, but different part numbers for the driveshafts because they are of different length.
