I had a problem with my 70' 140 similar to yours the difference it sat for 1.5yrs b-4 being used again. When I put it away last it ran perfectly then after pulling it out of storage it would not start (no spark) changed the coil (original equip + had no oil left in it) no spark, changed the points - no spark, changed the condenser - Vroooom. Couldn't believe it, the condenser had only one season on it, but she's running now. Good luck

Port Jeff..

If you are selecting to start the engine prior to putting the boat away for the winter, ya gotta start with what you've learned thus far..

You know you aren't getting spark to the plugs so..forget the fuel issues till you get good spark.

Read and follow Ratanna's post .
If you do everything he said to do you may find the cause for no spark, and be done right there.

If not,
and assuming you have juice at the coil positive terminal, with key on....

- Remove the distributer cap.
- Ground your test light then stab (and hold pressure) on to the metal plate that your points are screwed down to.
- Have someone turn the engine over.

If the test light lights even a very DIM light, while turning the engine over, your points are grounding out inside the dist, meaning the juice that is supposed to go to the plugs is grounding out.

- Replace the points and condensor.
- Use a match book cover to set the points while the point lever is sitting on the HIGH lobe of the distributer shaft.
- Put the earmuffs on the outdrive / turn on the water...
- Try starting the engine with the new parts.
- If it starts right up, shut it down and set the points the right way with a guage.

If it still doesn't start / come back here and tell everyone what you learned.

PS: If you do not have juice at the coil positive terminal with key in the on position, run a jumper wire from your battery positive terminal direct to the coil positive and attempt to start the engine.

If it starts, disconnect the positive wire and start chasing for a bad connection from the coil positive on back..

Don't forget to check the LARGE ROUND ELECTRICAL PLUG right on top of your engine.

Unplug it - spray the death out of it with PB Blaster, then plug it back in again.

Moisture gets inside them and causes all kinds of crap to start happening.

Hope this helps you out some..
