i am trying to pull my power head from my 1977 140 Johnson...i have pulled the 2 short bolts, 2 nuts in the front and 2 nuts in the back...i did a search on here and someone said something about 6 or 8 more bolts in addition to these i have already removed ?? does the mid section have to be removed too ?? i have a manual it told me to remove the ones i have...but then i get on here and find more that i might need to remove so i'm just checking....

Re: 140 johnson power head

Go by the shop manual (I assume it's an OEM book). If you have doubts about the number of fasteners, go to BRP's website and look at the parts list for your motor.

The midsection can stay in place. BTW, have you dropped the LU? If not, try that first, since the driveshaft may be stuck in the bottom end of the crank.

Sometimes, especially if a saltwater motor, PH's come off hard, particularly if it's never be off before.

Use a chromate primer and lacquer. Tempo Products makes both and has suitable colors. Do your spraying on a low humidity hot day and your will get good results.

When cleaning, just make sure nothing gets inside the powerhead (make sure to cover the carbs). The bottom cowl should be no problem to clean.
