very little water coming out of pee hole. no alarms...they work...plugs look excellent. can hold hand under the dribble...hot, but not too.<br />Does this sound like a problem? Motor runs great.

Remove the hose that leads to tell/tale from engine block and insure that there is no restriction in line or block fitting.Also insure that the plastic nipple that the water exits from is clear of debris.If all is well there I would look next at the thermostats and isure that they are not crudded up with deposits.Might as well install new while you have them out.If all is well there ,next stop is the waterpump impeller.If is has not been replaced in two or three years it's probably due.Good luck.

I held my hand over both water intakes and the suction felt great...does this mean the impellor is working? I had just run 5 miles at top end and slowed to trolling 3mph when I noticed the lack of water... I ran 5 miles back to ramp at 1/2 speed with no alarms. Where would I connect at water temp gauge? Is a pressure gauge worthwhile?<br /><br />Thanks for the replies!

also dont over look a comp test.<br />the time i had my 88 140 out i too noticed a drop in pee pressure, but motor didnt get hot.<br /><br />after he last time out it started to run rough & wouldnt stay running at idle, i pulled the plugs to find them clean, so i pulled the heads.<br />i found head gasket failure.<br /><br />i would do a complete cooling system tune up, especially if you donot know the last time it was done.<br />head gaskets<br />tstats<br />water pump<br />if i had done all three i probably would have caught it before it distorted the heads.<br />-<br />there is a threaded hole to the left of the tstat cover lower bolt to accept an omc temp gauge. <br /><br />water pressure gauge T's into the black elbow lower starboard side adapter housing. that is an incoming water supply.<br />just trying to help.

A water pressure gauge is difinitely worth the effort. It'll tell you about a problem before the temp gauge. Temp gauge is after the fact (it's already hot).<br /><br />c/6<br /><br />Hooty

Many thanks to the great replies and suggestions! The dribble was caused by a clogged line right at the tell-tale hole. Water's coming out like there's no tomorrow....<br /><br />I'm not a very proficient mechanic, but your comments and suggestions prompted me to buy a manual and read it. I also tackled a non-functioning trim indicator, which turned out to be the pot in the trim gauge sender.<br /><br />I'm ordering that and a water pressure gauge next week from iBoats for providing such a great forum. Maybe one day I’ll even be able to help someone….. THANKS AGAIN!!
