Re: 140hp Chrysler timing

The manual that I have shows specs for the Force 125hp and 150hp.

For the 150hp static timing is 32 deg BTDC and dynamic timing of 30.

It is 34 and 32 for the 125hp.

I guess I will set it to 32 btdc as nobody seems to know anything about these 140hp chryslers.

Re: 140hp Chrysler timing

The old girl would run at about 4400 rpm with some hesitation and a slight miss off and on.

Checked the plugs cyl # 2 and 3 are fouled.
Cleaned up the plugs but still only runs at 4400 rpm. Also drained the tank and put in fresh gas/mix.

Shined a light into the cylinders and they are caboned up pretty bad.

Ran some Sea Foam Deep Creep through it yesterday and now she runs at 4800 to 5000 rpm.

Problem is she is still fouling # 2 and 3 plugs and missing slightly.

Any ideas anybody?

Re: 140hp Chrysler timing

Checked compression on all cylinders.
#1 is 150
#2 is 150
#3 is 155
#4 is 150

Don't know what the original compression specs were on it but the motor has been sitting for awhile and had some really old gas run through it.

I will take it out again in the next couple of days and see what it does after putting in a new set of plugs.

Re: 140hp Chrysler timing

Crankshaft timing should be 30?
BTDC on 135 hp models manufactured
prior to 1972 and all 140 and 150 hp
models. When setting piston position
with a dial indicator, the equivalent
reading should be 0.254 in. BTDC on 140
hp models and 0.246 in. BTDC on all
other models.

Your engine model number comes up as a 1982.
