Don't know what you changed, Matt, but this is what I meant:

Hi. I have just bought an Avon 12 foot plus a 15HP Evinrude. I was told it was an 80s model, but when I have put the model number in the net I can't seem to find the year. The number is BE15BALCOB. Can anybody ID the year so I know what I am ordering in parts?

Etcetera. Editing the whole post is more work than I am up to this morning.

First piece of advice: Please spell, punctuate and capitalize your posts as you were required to pass grade 5. It make them much more readable and you are much more likely to get serious responses. As is, your post tells people that you are either illiterate or don't give a hoot about details. Neither inspires a response.

I think your engine is a 1985 Belgian made, long shaft.

BE=Belgium made
15=HP
BA = AC Lighting - Rope Start
L=Long Shaft (20")
CO=year 1985
B=Model run

I would suggest replacing the water pump if it's unknown when it was last done..

Dude how did you know JB played Banjo??? Him and I have a Banjo band in Texas together, you know down there in the back woods. You should come by some time, we can teach you how to play too!

Ok seriously now to answer your question, JB beat me to it, usually I point out the bad punctuation and spelling before he does. You are posting your question to a bunch of retired OMC mechanics and current mechanics who take the time to reply to posts, I guess they just don't like wasting time reading a bunch of run on sentences. Half the time I re read my posts 3 times to make sure all is well, correct grammer and spelling.

To address your issue (and i'm not expert) but I know enough about these motors to warrant some advice. That tube for the telltale travels up to a 90 degree plastic fitting on the powerhead. Not only does the tube get plugged but so does the plastic fitting. First advice anyone on here will give is to replace the water pump, it's the bloodline to the motor. They aren't hard to change and if you search the forums the topic has been covered 100 times.

Cheers

Well, you most likely have quite a bit of salt and corrosion inside the block. It's not too hard to remove the head, and with a 1/8" drill you can clear the water passages of the block and head, probably is going to need a thermostat too, so get a head gasket and thermostat cover gasket and seal. There are also treatments that are supposed to remove salt and corrosion deposits, but in severe cases it's best to clean the block and passages manually.

The rebuke you got surprised me, but rest assured that I don't mind poor spelling.
