15 hp evinrude hard starting

I have a 86 evinrude 15hp that always has to crank over about 10 sec before she wakes up. Otherwise it runs fine, after the 1st start it's easy to start up, idles fine. Why does it take so long? I've changed fuel lines, tank line, primer bulb all is in new shape. Thanks for the comments.

Are you getting full choke actuation? When properly set up, those motors should fire right off. Being that it runs fine in all other respects, it sounds like something in your cold start procedure. Prime the bulb a bit before starting, pull the choke completely out and make sure the choke knob is actually moving the choke butterfly to the completely closed positon...<br />- Scott

Thanks Scott, but yeah, it's choking good, just don't fire right up. I'm confused about it. Spark is good, compression same both cylinders 95 and the kicker is it runs great otherwise. Starts fine as long as it hasn't sit overnight.<br />Knob

I've got a '81 evinrude 15 and used to have a hard time starting. Now what I do is when I get home I disconnect the fuel line and run the fuel out with the muffs on. I run in salt so this is my flush procedure. Since I've done this I've had no problems with starting... I'm not sure why. What type of fuel are you using.. if it's Arco it may have some alcohol in it that may pick up moisture if it sits for any length of time. Just a thought. One question I have is my tell tale is a little weak lately. When you start yours up is the tell tale strong right from the start? Thanks,
