15 HP Johnny has me stumped

Just put back together my 1977, 15 HP Johnny. After 100 pulls, she came to life but won't idle low enough to shift no matter how much I try to adjest the slow speed adjust. She only will idle with the throttle all the way open. If I close it a little to shift, she dies. The engine has a new thermostate, plugs, needle valve, gaskets, etc. Any idea what to look for next?
Stalker

Define "Just put back together". Did you do a powerhead rebuild?? Carb rebuild/clean?

Yes. What did you do and why?

When you did all that, did you do it by the book or by the seat of your britches?

No powerhead rebuild just the carb. Put it together as best I could by the book (shop manual).
Stalker

Hmmmm. Hate to say this, but I think your carb is messed up (still? again?). Those tiny orifices in the carb throat often get overlooked or even plugged up worse during a carb cleaning/overhaul.

Long shot that the timing is waaaay off. Did you do the link 'n' synch?

Good luck. :)

Check your flywheel key for slop or a shear. Just guessing.

When I get the time, I'll take it apart again and clean that carb again. I think I may have not given those little orifices the attention they needed. Thanks for the info.
Stalker
