15 hp Johnson no spark, Please Help!

I have a 15 hp johnson (late 90's?, model #J15RLEUD) it sparks a couple times while turning it over, then no spark at all in both plugs. The protective case around one of the set of wires coming from one of the coils is melted but the wires look fine. Could this cause both plugs to not fire or is it a bad power pack or something else?
Thanks in advance,
Chad

Its a 1997 with a 20" shaft length. First thing id do is check all connections and wires and grounds. Wires corrode from the inside out. Pollish all connections and ensure all wiring is good. Check inside the spark plug boots to ensure that the coils are not rotted or rusty, and cut back the spark plug wires and insert new springs if necessary. A little WD-40 will aid in sliding the new boots over.

you might have issues with those wires, but disconnect your kill asitch and see if your spark gets better, they are notorious for trouble after they start to age

Well I checked the wires and kill switch and I am thinking its the power control box. I did check wires coming from the strator under fly wheel and the two brown wires appear to be good but when I checked the black and white wires on the ohm meter, the meter "jumps" very very little compared to the two brown wires. The strator is black and is sealed so I can't see where the wires go, should I only be getting the reading on the two brown wires? Also the strator under the fly wheel has a very small crack in it where the it looks like it swelled. I'm thinking of replacing that piece and the power box. I also checked to see if there was any volts in the two orange wires coming from the power box and there was nothing when I turned the fly wheel. Sometimes I get spark for a short time then nothing, could either the strator or the power pack cause the intermintent spark?
On a seperate not I forgot to mention that the motor did get hot about a week before the motor started acting up.
Any suggestions before I buy the parts?
