Hi,
I have a 1990 Merc 15 OB with manual start. It suddenly has developed an odd cold starting problem. Either the motor simply won't start, or after priming the recoil starter pulls back sharply during starting attempts - hard enough to hurt.
The prior starting sequence - pull/push the primer knob twice, leave the knob pulled out for choke - is still being followed. Additionally, I've tried combinations of pumping the primer bulb, pulling out the "fast idle" lever on the merc shifter, and other things.
If we keep at it long enough, and finally get it started, and it restarts perfectly after the first successful start.
The most peculiar issue is the recoil starter jerking back hard. I read thru the service manual and didn't see anything that might explain this.
Any advice would be appreciated!
Bill
