15 hp on Boat Rated for 7 hp

Traded my 4 hp for what I thought was a 9.9 for my 10 ft. Pelican fishing boat. Turns out it was a 15 with a 9.9 cowl. The boat is rated for 7. If I go easy on the throttle can I use the 15?

You can use it. Whether it is wise or not might be another story. Legalities of overpowering can vary, in Canada, if it can be mounted on the boat you can run it.

In the USA if you over power it you can have your insurance company or the coast guard on your butt, especially if you have an accident.
