My new gasket appears to be "stickey", does it require gasket sealer? If so, what type, brand do you suggest when replacing the powerhead.

I personally do not use sealer on them. Just make sure that the surfaces are totally clean and the bolts are torqued to the proper pressure. After you run it for a few hours check and retighten them to the proper torque. Check your manual for the tightening sequence and foot pounds of pressure. You will want to buy or borrow a torque wrench.
Could you be referring to the cylinder head gasket? They come pre-coated with sealant and nothing else should be added. I haven't seen other gaskets pre-coated, but that doesn't mean they aren't. Too new for me.
