Re: 15 HP Tohatsu Water Cooling Problem

Is there any chemical that could be added to the fresh water flush to do a better job of clearing out the salt crystals?

They make attachments to a garden hose to spread chemicals on lawns and this could be used with the ear muffs to flush chemicals though the cooling system. or perhaps something could be just squirted in the tube after flushing.

I am tired of having this problem every year.

Saltaway if you have the money. Vinegar if you are on a budget.

I am tired of having this problem every year.

Then why winterize each year ? Never winterize my engine, in plain summer the use is constant, in winter, every 15 days flush engine on using ear muffs, barrel or flush adaptor for 10 minutes, just to have un clogged free carburator problems (a 2 strokes issue) and maintain interior moving parts well lubricated. If cold temperatures is not an issue to you or engine, flush engine on constantly over the whole year.

Happy Boating

This is really a different issue, and should be in a fresh thread. However... sounds as though you may have a worn wp cup/plate, and only changed the impeller (we always try to do the whole wp kit when possible). That might give you a very low water pressure. The pee tube only shows that you have water pressure, and has nothing to do with the thermostat. However, if the water delivery is anemic, and the exhaust is overpowering the water pressure, that could cause your symptom.

While the engine is running...In water, stick a piece of wire up through the pee indicator into the block and you should be able to dislodge the sediment which is obstructing the pee indicator.
