15 hp wont run unless choked

I have a 1973 15 hp johnson and <br />it wouldnt run with out being choked<br />I rebuilt the carb and same thing<br />perhapse the float is wrong <br />how do you ajust the float on this<br />Thanks for any info

Did you check to make sure the float needle was not sticking in the closed position? Raise and lower float to be sure it's not sticking at all. It must release easily. Float level correct? Got to be the float level or needle sticking closed for engine not to get fuel. Did float bowl have gas in it when you removed it? You did put a kit in it with a new float needle? With the carb turned upside down in your hand, Adjust the float so that it is parallel with the float bowl mounting surface. There is a tang that you carefully bend to adjust it. Raise and lower the float to be sure there is no sticking at all. does your float bowl have an indentation on the side of it. Make sure it's lined up properly if it does. If the bowl is totally round, disregard.

I pulled the carb and put a carb kit in it<br />I am not sure I ajusted the float right<br />it came with a new needle and seat<br />and I replaced all except the metal bottle caps<br />that come with the kit<br />I wasnt sure that was nessasary

And you sprayed out all the passages with carb cleaner real well, especially the jets? Blow out with compressed air?
