Today I was on the lake for the first time this year after having run my boat on the muffs for 45 minutes with now problems and new water seperator install. Boat ran great up and down the lake wide open with about quarter tank of gas. Stopped and fished for an hour and when I started it died and would only idle for short time before dieing again. After a while I could hear fuel pump cycle on then tick tick tick cycle again. Could I have an injector stuck or such that is flooding out my engine? I also had cut a couple of tight turns could I have picked up air in fuel line being low? I got home and it still wouldn't stay running but put in a 5 gallon can of gas and it never died again on muffs even when revving. THis time it wasn't cycling with key in on position. This isn't the first time I have had this happen. Am I just letting it get too low on fuel? Thanks guys.

When this is happening...not later, pump the fuel ball and see if it gets hard...if it does and problem is still happening...it ain't fuel shortage...also, i would have pulled the fuel water seperator(the new one) and emptied into glass container and seen what it had picked up from tank and/or pulled line and pumped out a sample with fuel ball...now i'm not really a merc guy, but the tick tick tick sound when key is cycled on a yamaha is the isc(idle speed control).....never heard ANY fuel pump go tick tick tick....i would check the fuel and maybe the vent on fuel tank...but ball test is a good start.

Took it to a Merc guy today and he said there is a diaphragm on the oem pumps that has a rubber piece that shrinks when contacted with alcohol and mine hasn't been upgraded with the nylon kit and when it fails it pushes fuel into the motor. THats where he is going to start.

Did you fall in at the ramp? Looked like your pants were wet up to your seat when I drove past you. If that was you getting towed back at CC yesterday. FWIW, in the spring, it is best to put some fresh gas in. At least you're not using all old gas. Even if it was treated a few months earlier.

Letting a mech "start" somewhere will soon become expensive. I think the primer bulb thing is a way to test whether or not the fuel pumps are working properly. My last Merc was a carbed version, so I'm not sure. The Yamaha's have fuel pump issues from time to time too, even so much as many have recommended replacing gaskets every couple years or so. Good luck.

I don't mean start there as I have been through most everything. Bulb never went slack. Boat ran great on startup. Added fresh gas. Pump was cycling with key in on position multiple times and the gas was getting forced into motor. Ed up north of Dayton is good and he's a good friend of a friend. I tried many other things and once it is running the first time it is fine it is after you shut if off and try to restart it. I don't want to go through that again. I didn't fall in they didn't have the docks in and I didn't realize it till too late.lol
