150 idles but dies when given gas

150 johnson 1999 model,idles rough and when given gas stalls. put new plugs in and took gas for a couple of seconds . the engine still ran rough .all the plugs except for the bottom one on the right of the engine were all wet with gas.

Hello JBurris<br />What type of plugs are you running in the motor. Check your manual and make sure you are useing the right tpye of plug. I have an evinrude and they say these motors are designed to run champion plugs. Mine is a 1996 evinrude 150 and the plugs are QL78 series. They say that any other type can cause a miss fire.

no I havent rebuilt the carbs yet but, I ordered the carb kits. the plugs are the ones that it calls for in the shop book I have. should I attempt to rebuild these carbs myself or get someone to do it that much more experienced than me? also my shop book is very vague on this subject , what i mean is do you know where i cant get a better diagram of these carbs and a chart with the idle ,lean and rich screws sittings<br /> thanks

Carbs for 2 cycle engines are much simpler to work on than auto carbs. Basically you take them apart (paying attention as to what goes where), soak carb body & parts overnight in carb cleaner, blow out all passages with high pressure compressed air, install the new parts, assemble and adjust.

I had the same problem with my '85 60 hp(smaller engine but similar prob, carbs are not hard to rebuild and kit is comprehensive. I went to my local library and saved myself some $ on the manual. Good luck
