150 johnson high idle

I have a 1992 150 johnson silverstar, My problem is im getting a high idle 1100 rpms,I read in the manuel that quickstart will have motor at 1100 until warm , so how do i test if quick start is staying on ? The boat runs fine at all rpms, if quick start was staying engaged would it still run at high rpms and run fine ? thank you

Is that at an idle in foward gear? The proper reading is taken with the boat floating (not tied up) and in Forward. My 85 is the same way until I shift into gear at the lake, then it purrs like a kitten at about 650 Rpm.<br /><br />Bob

Thanks for the response bob, The idle is in neutral, but I ask because my other eningine (twins) idles at 800, I was wondering if the quick start was staying engaged, and if it was would engine run normal ? cause she runs fine thanks again

I think 1100 is a little high. The port temp switch should have 2 wires 1 tan 1 tan/white if you ground the tan white on cold engine rpm should drop 200/300 rpms. The Quick Start also should drop out when rpms exceed 1100 rpms. the only problem I see is shifting at to high rpms, hard on the gears. You should verify this info, I am doing this from memory.

clanton, your right on thanks, i had mechanic adgust idle ,she idles fine now thanks again
