150 johnson start problems

hey guys my 95 150 wont start, i installed new plugs and the battery is charged, when i was checking for spark i touched a plug to the block and the motor started and it ran for about a minute then died, but would not restart or could not get a spark, maybe kill switch ? thanks in advance.

thankyou, i will try that, however i still dont understand why the motor started when i touched the plug to the block while i was checking for a spark?

Not enough information in your question to diagnose the problem. However you need 300RPM to form adequate charge for spark and having some plugs out makes it easier to reach that RPM; A fully charged, powerful battery and spotless cable connections usually overcome that problem.

update, the motor started after i unpugged the black and yellow wire and is still working i guess i need a new kill switch?

The kill wires work by grounding the wire to the engine block which grounds the powerpack to instantly keep it from firing. When you turn the key to off, the black ground from the engine is connected to the black and yellow. Pulling the emergency lanyard also connects the two wires so check that as well.

If there is fault in the ignition switch or the emergency kill switch, replace them.

There is also the possibility of a short to ground.

When testing or working on the wiring, be sure to disconnect the battery; any voltage riding the black and yellow wire can instantly destroy the powerpack.
