Shouldn't there be a steady stream of water from the pee hole the entire time the engine is running or just when the thermostat opens. Never owned anything but in line 6's that don't have thermostats. All outboards I've ever owned had a steady stream all the time. The stream is good at 2000 rpm and up.

Re: 150 Mercury

All the water for the tell-tale has to go through the thermostats first. It's normal for it to sputter and spit at idle, especially if the supply water is very cold.

The benefit I see is that when I start up the engine cold in the morning, I watch the telltale at fast idle till it starts up. Then I know it's warm enough to not cold-seize when I blast out of the hole.

I can't imagine operating and managing this engine without a water pressure gauge.

Re: 150 Mercury

Thanks John, I took her to the lake this afternoon and she ran GREAT, very smooth and much quieter than my old tower of power, in line. Oh it's a 150 Black Max XR6. Steady stream after she runs a bit, just wanted to make sure I was ok. I'll buy a water pressure gauge and install this week, it doesn't have one. Just speedo, tach and voltmeter. I went from 45 MPH with the 115 In-Line to 58 MPH with the V6 150.
