150 optimax possible wiring connector problem

Hi All,
I'm new to the board and desperate for help. I live in a landlocked region where it seems knowledgeable Mercury mechanics are few and far between.
I have a 2000 150 optimax I bought new last year. Ever since I had it I have had a problem with the engine using the oil from the reserve tank and not the main or remote tank. This always causes the low oil alarm to go off which is easily fixed but annoying. I've tried a few merc dealers here and they haven't been much help.
While I had the cowl off last week I noticed a female electrical connector attached to the bottom left of the ECU which seemed to be unplugged from its male counterpart. Both connectors have 2 wires going to them. The one on the bottom of the ECU is grey and brown/white stripe. The other connector's I believe were blue wires.

Can anyone tell me what these are for and should they be plugged in together? Could this be related to the oil problem?
If anyone has access to a manual I'd appreciate to know where the heck these wires run to.

Any help truly appreciated.

Re: 150 optimax possible wiring connector problem

I am not familiar withe OptiMax engines so this is just a guess. My understanding of the remote tank is that the oil is pressure fed to the onboard tank. There are normally two lines to the tank, one comes from the block and pumps pressure into the tank, the other goes to the onboard tank and carries the oil there under pressure. Check to make sure the bottom of the pickup tube is not clogged as it is has fine screen on it. Then make sure you have good connections and tight caps. Maybe you have a broken "O" ring in a cap and the tank is not holding pressure.

Re: 150 optimax possible wiring connector problem

I did tighten all the caps and looked to be sure nothing was cracked. One dealer has looked into this 3 times and can't find the problem. The first thing he told me was to check the caps were tight.
The Main tank seems to be pressurizing as I get a hiss when I undo the cap.
I still have to wonder whether the electrical connector that I mentioned should be plugged in together although I would have hoped that the dealer would have said something about it already if this was the case.

your wire connections sounds like the DDT test plug.. i can't remember the wire colors.... as far as your oil... Put the boat on the hose. run it.. open the top Of your motor oil tank... does it fill from the boat tank by itself It should.. if not.. you have a boat tank problem.. it needs to be air tight... there are plenty of that style tank around if you need one email me.. i have a couple...

Sorry I had a computer problem and I needed to reregister.
Anyway the tank that is under the motor cover does fill when I open the screw. So this means that the other tank is air tight, right?
If so then what else could it be?

there is a fitting where the oil hose fills the motor tank.. that "t" is a check valve... that could be sucking air....
