I recently bought an 89 evinrude 110 with a bad lower unit. I have a lower unit that i got cheap off ebay. it was from a 1995- 2000 evinrude 150. The guy I bought it from said he had it on is 140 v4, all he had to do was change shift shafts from the v6 to the v4. will it work on my 110?
thanks

Welcome to iboats.:)

Too bad you didn't drop in and ask before you bought it. I don't think so unless it's a commercial motor. The V-6 gearcase fits 120s and up for some years.

It'll work just fine. Yes, you'll have to use your shift shaft and - obviously - use a V6 prop. Two other things to note, you'll have a little more drag from the larger gearcase but you should be able to mount the motor a little higher because you'll be using props that are a full 1" larger, or more, in diameter. Most likely those two factors will about cancel themselves out.

You'll probably use a prop with less pitch than you would with a V4 case because of the different gear ratio.

thanks for the input. i forgot to mention that the lower unit has a bobs machine shop nose cone and low water pick up on it so i should be able to rais the motor sky high to reduce the extra drag produce by the bigger lower unit. thanks again for the help

Yep, you'll be able to run it a bunch higher. The extra length may still slow you down unless you're at or near gearcase blow-out speed now.
