I am finishing up my 26 foot bayliner cat and shes got a 200hp Johnson looper on it I just rebuilt anyways im looking ahead to my next project and It was the first boat I ever bought I had it was sitting under the cover for a good year with the 130hp looper that I recently sold for a good sum. I debate wether I should put on a 120hp or a 150hp 60 degree well the 60 degree I got from a buddy for a good price that needs to be rebuild a piston detonated in #4 and Its gonna need a sleeve for sure along with 5 new rings and one std pistons. could always sell it but I love my little 16 foot swinger glastron. Its sitting in the back without a motor or a care to take her out anymore but I was thinking up I got my first boat I might as well make her my mess around boat and take a lot of people on the 26 foot cat no need to buy CC when I got my old boat witch need a lot of repair work but im an outboard mech and motors are more than easy to acquirer for me but I dont know what motor I should put on the glastron I think the 150 would be sick but I really wanted a 150 ficht but I would rather not spend the money or time into tearin that sucker. See then again the 120 looper did a great job on my little boat but im just so unsure what I should do. Weight is not that much different between the motors. Power on the other hand a big difference. Give your opinion

P.S.

the boat weighs not but 1000 LB and its rated for a 150

Go with the 60? 150 as twice the torque, better fuel economy, and 30 more horses. Also if its a small bore (3.500) engine its not a 1991 more likely a 1987 as they went big bore in 1988...

They went to big bore in 93 as well as changing a few other things like closing the deck. I love the 60 degree motors their the tits I would even take a crossflow but I want to save the gas.

Hate to disagree but it was 1988 as you cannot find a 3.500" "small bore" piston offered for a 120/140 after 1988 and the 1986-87 where the "bridged port" exhaust models that have the pistons drilled for cooling the bridge. These block have enough meat in them to bore to "big bore" specs. The 60? motors are the only one's that rarely have the pin migrate from piston do to cooling problems...

I will have to agree with you on the v4 loopers i was thinking of the v6 loopers I was almost certain they switched all them over to big bore after 93... Im actually considering puting on a 115 flat back crossflow on the little glastron and selling the 60 degree I figure its a 1998 motor people love newer stuff what do you get for a 150 rebuilt over where you live.
