Been looking at boats lately, but can't afford the ones I want. My brother is offering me the old family boat (was my mom's) for free since his kids aren't interested anymore. Last time I was out on that boat was over 15yrs ago, so my memory is real fuzzy. Any idea what performance would be like with Merc 80 pushing it? I know I won't be setting any speed records, but the family wants to do some tubing/kneeboarding this summer. From what I remember, it could yank me out of the water on a wakeboard 15yrs/40+lbs ago, but I doubt it could do it now. Shouldn't be too much issue with the fam, so maybe I'll stick to driving or riding a tube.

Re: 15ft Capri Tri-hull

We've been tubing and kneeboarding for two summers now, and love every trip. I had knee surgery last June, so once or twice on the tube was all I could handle last year. Our last boat burned up in a roll-over accident, so until I save up again, we'll have to stick to the freebie. Just wondering what kind of speed I could expect out of it, that's all. Our last two boats could only hit 32-34mph.

A 15' FG boat with Merc 80 on it should be in the 35 to 40 mph range as long as the boat is not waterlogged.

I had a 16' 9" boat with a Merc 500 (50hp)and we would run 30 -32 max.

Well, if we could get similar performance to our last 2 boats, I'd be happy with that. Especially if its free! The boat is currently stored in Spokane, and I'm in Boise, so I'll have to make a little drive. No big whoop.
