Re: 15ft pride ski boat :)

ok guys im back again lol
got a few aims for the boat now im gona raise up the transom to take a xl beacause i can get a hand on a 200hp xl merc
the second lol as above 200hp merc make it take the weight/power i was thinking bout making a steel fame up which i will bolt through the stringers and bring it back to the transom which im gona make up all metal supports on the inside of the transom so the motor bolts will go through the metal
any one seen any creation done like this before and any ideas lol or just tell me im stupid lol

This is a boat that had a 25 hp and you want to move up to a 200 hp  I would take serious time to re-think this venture. I would think the 200 hp is good trading material for a motor that the boat would be happy with.

I will not tell you that you are stupid but I would re-visit your plans. A 15 foot boat of that design is not 200 hp material.

yeh it did originally have a 35hp on it in western australia the next size up in same model someone put two 150s on one and held the record around rotnest for a while i was going to weld up a frame with metal around the stringers ill make a pic in paint and upload it to explain my ideas i just wanna have a crazy little toy its getting a new transom anyway so i thought ill go all the way

Looked at your picture of how you are going to do this..

I would say "going all the way" is removing the old stringers and replacing them with new good wood and reglassing..

You are making a bandaid that may not stick..

If those stringers are bad rotten, you are going to bolt into black dirt, and we all know how strong that will be...
And it will NOT allow for any kind of support that a "crazy toy" will need...

I will assume you are joking about the 200HP?

You will find only one true way to make a 200HP boat out of that one...
by buying a new one... Well, unless you are a machanical engineer with a marine specialty...

Please do not attempt what you are discussing...

i am a marine mechanic by trade i have been doing this for the last 4yrs and like to have the most craziest things i can think of. originally i was going to put a 75hp that i have laying around on but also there is a 200hp there aswell and i just look and it and fits in my head lol the 200 isnt much more wieght wise i kno it has a lot more power but ussally wen i build stuff i always overbuild it anyway i have seen it done before on youtube :) and liked what i saw so if i do do it im willing to do it properly with new stringers fibreglass isnt my speciality but im willing to have a go at it and with the wood work i can get help from someone and the welding can be done myself. so i figured perfect chance to create a monster

A mechanic and Engineer are miles apart...

Oh my... you tube is not a great proving ground...
But hey, you saw it on the internet, so it must be true...

you have alot of fiberlgass work to do so I figure it will be your thing by the time you are done...

It is a great looking boat, I do like it for that fact...

Please remember, you are not bullet proof, and you are not the only one at risk here of getting hurt if this idea blows up on the water...

Look that up on youtube!

Re: 15ft pride ski boat :)

wen i rethink it i was thinking i want it to last so im leaning towards the stinger a little if i use the stinger i was thinking about not doing the stringers cause im not too sure on doing that

That is a stupid poll. I would advise people to avoid it. It should be titled two categories....

SAFE ?
or
SUICIDE ?

If you are looking for people to bless a stupid idea you are in the wrong place.

Most of the member's in the restoration section take pride in their work. We never condone band aids or stupid tricks. I am very tempted to move this post to stupid human tricks.

Re: 15ft pride ski boat :)

i just had the idea of putting a 200 on there because its just laying around doing nothing i originally wanted a 115 max on there but i was just looking at it and theres not much weight difference and was thinking bout using it could posibly limit the throttle i wanted to see if other people had done anyhting like this b4 or seen anything like it i do also have a 75hp there but just didnt think it would b enough for the boat

Re: 15ft pride ski boat :)

Here is the simple truth...

if the boat has a 35 on it to start with...
That is bound to be close to the Max rating for that boat..

Even a 75 which you consider mild is more than double the safe limit...

This boat does not have traditional vertical stringers and so your bracing idea will not work unless you add the stringers, then you are in direct violation of good boat building and engineering practices...

I am sorry, you will find no support here for either idea, nor any desire to see it come to completion... as it is not safe and in no way can be supported...

Re: 15ft pride ski boat :)

Looking at the boat builders guide provided by the coast guard here are the number for your boat....

15' long

5' beam (assumed)

Hard Chine bottom...

15 x 5 = 75

Chine factor is .8

75 x .8 = 60

subtract 25 from that number

60 - 25 = 35

From those calculations that boat is only rated for a 35 hp.

If it had a softer chine it could rate as high as a 60hp.
