I need help! I recently bought a broken 15hp 1979 and fixed it up. It worked great! One day I was on the lake and it all of a sudden it locked up. A screw came loose underneath the flywheel and siezed it to the spark timing plate. It also cracked the coil. Removing the flywheel and replacing the coil I'm trying to get it started again and it will not start. Spark is good, compression is good, spark is good, carb has been recleaned, and new fuel is being used. What am I missing here???

think I would replace the key with an oem one: 0318931. Not clear to me what happened -- sounds like a loose bolt wedged the flywheel? Is the lower unit operating smoothly after the mishap -- unlikely but might have sheared the driveshaft.

Flywheel key ?----Or swap plug wires.
The fly wheel key is a little worn but it works still. Also I have tried swapping the wires with no success

I'll try it but what would Replacing the key do? It still spins and turns over fine. Also the lower unit shifts into gear fine so it's good

If the flywheel key is not exactly placed, the timing will be off. It must be a perfect fit in the slot, and be unbent.
