Pull the old spring out carefull not to let it uncoil. Take the clamp off holding the new spring but hold onto kit cause it will jump and take your eyes out. Let it uncoil under control. Then put the outside tab into the lock on the outside of the starter cup and turn the spring until it get's tight enough to seat inside the assembly.

Re: 15hp Evinrude Wont stay running

So I rebuilt the fuel pump, replaced the recoil spring and rope. And the motor is running great. I cant say with 100% that it is fixed until I get it on the water becaue it has performed well before when I replaced the ball until I got it on the water. But I have the ability to run in low gear now which I was never able to prior to rebuilding the fuel pump since I purchased the motor. So I'm going to assume that it is working now. Also I started it on friday. Went back saturday and didnt even pump the ball and it started right up so I think it's safe to say the fuel pump was the culprit. Thank you all for your help, it is very much appreciated. :)

I just rebuilt my fuel pump last week also, plan on testing it out tonight, pretty simple rebuild with the instructions! I hope i have the same results as you FA.
p.s. I'm glad I didnt bring it to someone to rebuild the carb and the fuel pump; I called earlier this summer and they wanted about $220 ; for a $30 carb kit and a $15 fuel pump kit with some of my time, it saved me big time!

Quacks: Good on you. Now would be a good time to take some of the money saved and get an OMC service manual if you don't already have one. It's partly about the savings and partly about the gratification. Also, never brag about the savings until AFTER you test it out. LOL. Rick.

I counted the ducks before they hatched! Took it out last night to test it out, noticed the one gas line i replaced was alittle on the larger size, i thought i could zip tie it tight, the end going to the fuel pump was fine, but the one connected to the fuel line connecter still leaked alittle; i thought it wouldn't be enough to matter, but I think it was letting air in the gas lines to make the motor run rough; it would cough/sneeze and I could see air bubbles in the outlet fuel line. So I found a smaller diameter fuel line at the hardware store and I'm hoping that will cure it along with some fresh gas...
