15hp Johnson Seahorse reverse polarity (Majic Smoke)

So my son and I are preping for our weekly fishing trip and he accidently connected the red to neg and black to pos. Did not take long for the majic smoke to let it self free. That is the smoke they put in all electronic parts at the factory to make things work...once it comes out you can not get it back in . Anyway, Does anyone know what parts are most likely needed for said BBQ repair? Model # J15ECTR....any advice is welcome.

I would start with the rectifier and work from there.

Yep, the rectifier for certain. You can't disconnect it fast enough to prevent damage to that. With any luck, that will be all. But it is possible to damage the stator, although it usually doesn't happen.

first see if the motor will start before buying parts. it will run without the rectifier, but will not charge the battery.
