15hp Mariner Year???

Hi, I'm getting ready to buy a used outboard. The guys says it is a 2006-2007 15hp Mariner, however he himself does not know the year nor how to find the model number on the outboard.

He provided me with a partial S/N: D126461, and after searching a bit, I have a hunch that the actual serial number is as follows: 0D126461, and the outboard is an early '90s model and not a 2006ish as he claims.

Can someone please verify the year for me and also let me know how hard is it to find parts for this particular model/outboard in general, and how hard would it be for me to work on it (lower unit change, impeller, etc...)?

The guy wants $700 for it, and says he cannot find the fuel line/connection to run it for me... I'm beginning to think that this is gonna turn into a sketchy deal... suggestions...?

Here is a pic of it...

Even though it is hard to see from this picture, it has a red pin-stripe right underneath the words "MARINER"

Much appreciated...

Any suggestions appreciated thanks.

Re: 15hp Mariner Year???

Hello Gerry - Thank you for replying!!

So it is just as i had suspected it is NOT a 2007 model.

What is a Marathon...?

I will be meeting the guy today or tomorrow - he says he will look for the fuel hose/connector, let's hope he finds it and the motor IS in good condition..

Are these hard to work on/find parts for?

Thanks again.

Here is the Parts and Service Bulletin list for that s/n:

Search Results - Crowley Marine

You should have no problems with parts but you may have to go looking on ebay etc for some of the NLA parts and they are no harder to work on than other outboards. I believe the Marathon designation was just model hype.
