Mystery Motor

I was given a 15hp Mariner outboard and I can not find what year this is anywhere. The SN is 684C-S-048360. Anybody have any idea? It is made in Japan(Yamaha?) maybe. What year did they bring production here?

Thanks guys. It’s much appreciated. I thought it was a 1986. I’m most interested in when they started making them in USA. I need a prop and I’m sure that will make a difference in parts.

Yours is a yamaha built motor. Should have a made in japan label.

I believe they were made by Mercury starting in 1989.
