Hi, I have just joined this forum as i have a 16 " bondwood boat (heartly hull i think) it had some aditions to the hull (ply canopy) that was very rotton and i have succesfully removed it yesterday and now just have the hull, i have found rot in the top bow and the transom has been replaced in the past but very badly, so that will be coming off too.

Q1.

Some sort of epoxy hase been poored into the transome area (i htink to give strength) arounds all the corners and joints, will i do damage trying to get this off, should i just leave it there? I am planning to take the whole transome off and replace it and even add half a foot length at the bottom and angle it slightly the other direction.

How wil this effect the mounting of the outboard? and stability?

I should also let you know, this boat will be only used on the river now not the ocean.

Q 2.

the very top of the bow has split slightly any ides on replacing this or would it be sensibel just to epoxy this, the hull with prob be painted when complete with a new polished timber deck. so any resin/ fibre will not be seen.

very excited about my new project and looking forward to getting some ideas and feedback from this community. many thanks Ben

Re: 16" bondwood repairs

you can change your transon it looks as if it wasnt originally like that but this is probbably what it looked like before it was repaired (pic) if you make it like this one it will pobbably work even better you just gotta think about the floor where you gotta extend it its better to overbuild it than have a weak one
