16 foot supersport what are you running?

I haven't dropped my boat in the water yet but it's packing a 85 hp Johnson. I know this is the max size for this boat according to the plate. Later down the road maybe a year or two I'm looking at a complete gut of the boat and everything new. I'm just curious what other 16ft supersport owners are running for HP and if they are happy.

Ill let everyone know how happy I am with the 85 hp this weekend 8)

My SS came with a weak-running 80hp Mercury...I sold it and I'm looking for a 70hp Johnnyrude.

There are a few guys running 85's and they've seen speeds over 40mph.

If I can get a good deal on a V4 85-90 I will buy one but I'm leaning towards a 70hp.

I have got a 1980 85HP v4 Johnson on my 79 16' SS with a 17" pitch prop. I see speeds hovering around 42 / 43 and it launches out of the water (especially compared to my previous 18' with a troublesome 90HP Johnson)! I also have a 19" pitch prop which I have been told is built for the top end speed and will get me 2 - 3 mph additionally on the top end but I would lose some on the hole shot. How much I am not sure but for 2 - 3 mph less on the top end I would rather rip out of the water.

I almost dumped my mother in law to the floor from the rear facing back to back passenger seat last weekend . ..and don't give me grief, I dutifully told her we were going to go but she continued to talk on the phone for 10 minutes and I decided after that long she had fair warning! haha

My 85 hp has an 4 blade adj pitch. The previous own informed me that he spent 3 days getting the pitch just right to match to motor. I can't wait to goose it and see what she can do. LOL on the mother in law. Did you wife give you any grief for it 8)?

I have an 88hp evinrude and we clocked it @ 44mph
This video is with my other motor, an 85.
They both take of quick.

34mph according to my fish finder with 40hp 4 stroke Suzuki and stock prop (not sure what it is). 2 men on board. Sounds like you gain about 10 mph with double the hp.

Well dropped it in the water this weekend and was very impressed with the 85 hp. Damn watched the gas drop off pretty quick but had a fun time doing it. My GPS on my phone had me going 44 mph. She handles very good at top speed.
