Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore

We'll need some pics to make sure they are fashion worthy Bob! I got so excited about the pics from Creativers that i forgot to update my progress. I blocked out the primer on the "dent" and shot another coat after lunch today. During the game, (listened to it on the radio) I blocked that out and did some more detail sanding. I had some orange peel in the primer in a few spots....a couple more hours and I hope I'm done! Hopefully I can finish that up tomorrow night...then its paint time! :D

I thought that boat looked an awful lot like yours!

hey keep me in mind with the jeans thing! I got a pair I just threw away I can pull out of the can. They have holes in the knees and butt area:eek: and glue, and poly all over the thighs.

I should post them on ebay to see what happens. No, I'm serious!

Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore

Why can I see you guys buying new jeans....taking a belt sander too them...slinging poly on them...then sprinkling glass dust into the poly? I can see it, "I-boat Jeans".....all the rage!

I finished up the last bit of sanding tonight....now I just need to get the paint booth together and some warm weather. My friend David K came by today and discussed stripes with me. He mentioned painting the entire transom silver.....but I'm still not sold on how the stripe wraps the corner and then transitions to cover the entire transom. I do think it would look cool with the black Merc on it.....I'm going to work some more on that and post my ideas. The plan is to get the paint booth put together this weekend, then work on getting the trailer ready for paint while waiting for some warm weather.....Mick will be really excited to see more trailer pics! LOL! I also have a couple of minor glass projects to work on.....can't wait to itch! Here is a video I made tonight, think I'm going to build a fire (as opposed to flicking a switch and poof!) and do some reading! By the way?.I have a ?blank spot? in the middle of the video, for some reason it is just black without text.

Tallcanadian, thanks for the pic. What we were talking about would be real similar, just the stripe would be thinner and step down as it makes its was towards the back. Nice looking boat by the way! I posted a rendering of the side of it earlier, I just hadn't pondered the silver transom yet. One difference between yours and mine are the corners, I have really "round" corners, not sharp ones like yours. I need to do some sketching on some pics....and add a little color. Last night I was also pondering two stripe colors....yes lets make things more complicated! :D

Hey arch,
I couldn't get the video to load last night, so I tried it again tonight and it worked fine.
The boat really looks great and I know you didn't leave anything to chance. Can't wait to see some paint on it.
I hope you get some warm weather for painting.
I've been watching the weather and don't see much of a warming trend for me yet.
Oh well,
Keep up the great work my friend.

Nice video! I have to build a paint booth soon also to paint my outdrive. With all the prep, that paint should look like glass.

Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore

Thanks guys! The mechanic with the motor called today, sounds like he has the title work ironed out and the motor on a stand in his shop. I'm going to stop by later this week and pick it up assuming it runs as advertised. I was trying to get some work done on the paint booth tonight, but that didn't work out . Naturally they have revised the forcast to colder weather....but I still have some minor trailer work and the paint booth to keep me occupied.

Looking good. I'm looking forward to spring! I don't think we're going to thaw out for a while. Three weeks in a row without it melting.

I like the idea the of stepped down stripe. I'm with you on the corner though. Seems like it should almost stop and not even round the corner. How about a silver Airbrushed "fade" on the transom?

Let's just make it real difficult!:D

Did somebody say trailer work again:confused:
"The MickS110" would look real good on that trailers frame though!
Hey I looked into putting my jeans on eBay. Turns out nobody has any custom jeans on there. Ours could be a big hit!
Man it's hot in here, I gotta turn my heaters down:D

It has been a long week, but tomorrow I get to pick up the tower of power! I'm also going to round up the last few things I need for the paint booth and get that knocked out this weekend....looks like it might be warm enough to paint the middle of next week! I can't wait to get some color on it! :D

Hey Arch,
I was starting to worry about you.
Tower of Power just sounds mean.
I can't wait to see some color either. :p
I just got the news today, I have got to be back in Mexico Monday. :(
Good luck with the Paint.

Sorry to hear you are headed back to Mexico.....well maybe it will be warm! I'll try to post some video of the tower...assuming it runs as advertised tomorrow. There is nothing that....sounds, smells or runs like them! Outboard with an attitude! Here is a link to a nicely tuned one....hope mine runs this good!

What year is your tower? My 850 is a 1977 model and looks just like it. I got it on a boat for 300 and sold the boat for 500. Cleaned the carbs and it ran perfect for the second half of last summer.

Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore

The year I'm getting is an 86, one of the last one's made. It has the newer style tilt / trim and the new ignition / wiring. From what I understand the last of the series actually make more shaft horsepower because Mercury changed the way they rated them.....which they were already known to send them running "hot " from the factory :D. Just what I need to strap onto Miss Morgan!
