Hey I just saw an article in the usatoday that 142,000 are under ice with no power in your neck of the woods:eek: I'm assuming you are one of them:D

archbuilder,
Love the boat, hate the ice.
It hasn't started here yet.
They say it may go North of us here in Milan and hit my house in KY.
The boat is looking great.

Still have power, this storm has been a cake walk so far, didn't get that much ice. Our power is always on.....my neighbor is a line man for the power company...and as he say, "I have to sleep with my wife....she likes it warm....therefore our power won't be off long!" Vegas, I'll have it warm...might take some propane, but it will be 70 in the paint booth!

Hello all,
You are right they can't predict the weather. I hit us here in MIlan and when I talked to my wife she said they had nothing yet.
I'm stuck here at work. Not because of the weather either. :(
Get that paint booth built. We like color. :D

Get home soon Bob, we need updates! Mine are pretty boring tonight......trudged through the snow to the shop, did some spot puttying and spot priming. I left the heater on 60, so I should be able to start sanding it out tomorrow! I'm hoping I can sand it out with 400 and be ready for the primer! I also have a list of stuff for the paint booth...but we'll have to see how the weather goes! Mick I need to send all this snow to you! :D

archbuilder,
This weather seems to be slowing everyone down.
I won't get home till next Friday now. :(
I hope you are at least able to get some work completed.
Good luck my friend

Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore

I hope everyone's weekend is off to a good start. It doesn't look like a very good day for building the paint booth....I need to go to home depot, but it needs to thaw out a bit before I can drive the truck out to the shop.

Here are a couple of shots from last night....more tape marking "issues". Most were really small, everything should be good to go after this round.

Here is a pic after I spot primed it.

I left the heater on 70 last night, so it should be ready to sand out with 400 today. Hopefully after that I will be ready for paint!:D

archbuilder,
At least it looks like the taped spots are greatly reduced.
It's really looking great and the prep you are putting into this thing should really pay off when you start the final paint.

Arch, make sure it is perfect, If you call it good enough you will kick yourself later. Everyone else wont notice it but you will. Thats one nice thing about gelcoat, it is so thick it covers the work under and I can call it good sanding it out and always sand more later.

Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore

Just wanted to let you know that I think I have your exact boat model. I bought it last summer; I actually paid good money for it, because I wanted a lightweight nearly flat-bottom ski boat. I believe it still has the original upholstery (the supporting plywood is rotting), and 115 hp merc engine. I haven't even had it in the water yet.

The motor runs, sort of. I'm trying to decide whether to buy a new motor for it. Problem is, the new motors are heavier. From my research, the merc weighs 280 lbs. A new ETEC 90hp weighs 320, and the 60hp weighs 240, so I'm trying to figure out which way to go.

It has been painted black, over the original green. I don't know what I'll do about that. So I'll keep in touch, to see your results.

Love to see some pics Paul, so far no one has had a match.....I'd love to find one. And for the Merc, the old I6's are worth their weight in gold....nothing made now can compare to a well tuned tower of power.

Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore

Thanks for the encouragement! Sometimes I does get boring, but I know from working in a body shop it will pay off! I'm just happy the top should only need a light sanding with 400 once I flip it. I'm pondering whether to sand more today or work on filling a small void in the top of my transom with Seacast....Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore

Arch, I had a 3/4 inch void at the top of my transom which I discovered after putting the cap on. I was out of seacast and there was no way I was pulling the cap off again so I used a piece of trex decking and ripped it to fit. Perfect fit and still no chance of rotting, and I didnt have to pull the cap back off.

Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore

These are some kind of triangular areas in the corners. The sides of the transom are slightly higher than the middle where I put in the seacast. I should be able to drill a hole in my inner skin and fill them. I didn't get much done on the boat yesterday. I did find a couple more spots that needed work after I got it sanded out with 400. The 400 left a pretty shinny surface in the sun yesterday....that I when I found the spots that need work. I think I'm going to spend a little more time on the prep to make sure I have it right. Maybe paint in two weeks if he weather co-opperates. I was aiming for this weekend, but that was before I found the issues...don't want to rush it at this point.

archbuilder,
Here we go more delays. :D:D HA!HA! Just kidding man.
I know that you would never forgive yourself if after you have put this much work into it to cut corners now. Take your time and get it right.
We can all wait.
Still looking forward to seeing some bright color.
