I was rear ended tonight and I am think that my truck is done for. I have been hit 4 times in the last 3 years by drivers not being observant. No it is not my driving habits just bad drivers are a magnet too me. Anyways no one was hurt but I have some frame damage and the rear door seams are 1/4" closer. Any closer and the doors would stay shut.

I am now looking for a daily driver and tow rig for the SS. Any recommendations? Chuckn I was admiring your Sport Trac but I want a 1st Gen with a solid rear axle. I also need to be able to tow my Steury.

An SS weighs about about 650lbs. add another 200lbs or so for a motor and a trailer is what maybe 400lbs. So at 1200lbs pretty much anything will tow that. You can take your pick.

LDS, I have been thinking the same thing. I have an older s-10 that may not do the job of towing the 18' offshore. I was thinking Ford Escape or possibly Jeep. I commute 65 miles each day so mpg is important but I need to be able to tow uphill if needed. I'm thinking V-6 but not 4wd:(.

Shoot, I towed my 16' Jupiter with a heavy trailer and a V4 outboard with a 2000 Buick Regal! Certainly not ideal but it got the job done. Any small SUV or truck or larger will be more than adequate.

My wife and I recently purchased a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It's our first ever Jeep product. We LOVE it!!!! We're already eying up the 2011's.

Take a careful look at gas mileage if you do a lot of miles. I too commute 75 miles a day and it adds up. I have a Dodge Dakota 4X4 with a standard tranny and a V6. The buddy has the same truck with a V8 and automatic. He gets better mileage when towing than I do. (Some Jeeps are brutal on the gas too.)

Depends how often and how far you are towing really. Having said that I think almost anything would tow a Super Sport.

I read on someones thread that they used to tow their boat with a VW Bug.

These boats are light, even a riding mower can move them.

I tow mine with a '99 Explorer and it works out great. I'd probably be fine towing a 18-21' rig with it so I should get another boat I guess:D

We also have a Dodge caravan but no trailer hitch.:(

I often wonder how it would do with the SS, probably just fine in the flatland around here.:)

Your Caravan would tow your light SS perfectly fine.

We use a 96' Silverado C1500 2WD most of the time with a 5.7 V8. We use it for the storage room, HP, and it actually gets better mileage than our 2004 Chev. Blazer (4.3V6). The Blazer tows it well too, though. I would consider storage, mileage, and the terrain you will tow against. Right now we have only a 35 mile one way trip via interstate with almost no hills for our local lakes but will be going against some tough ones this spring when we go to Stonewall and Summersville lakes. I would think too, the boat ramps you encounter might make a difference. We have had no issues with 2WD but have not hit any rough ramps yet either.

I had a YJ Wrangler and I have a project Grand Cherokee so I most likely will go back to a Jeep. My brother is buying my Grand and I am going to look at a TJ and a CJ-8 with a fiberglass tub. I don't really car about the mileage when the top and doors are off. There where a lot of Explorers in my area before the Cash for Clunkers program and I would like a V8 Eddie Bauer.

I would love a HMMWV. I had the opportunity to drive a few while serving. Took one over a 3ft concrete wall foundation with my Supply SGT. Lowest rank in the company and being 17 at the time they all thought it was fun to make me drive.

Re: 16' SS Tow vehicle

Had a crazy week dealing with insurance companies but the accepted a claim and that helped with a down payment. I picked up another Wrangler. It is a 2001 Sport with a 4.0l, 5 speed and a hardtop. Between the Jeep and the SS this is going to be a long winter.

Come on Spring!!
