So, I took off the block between the mount and the engine, loosened the alternator, and the belt was free! Now, how do you get it from between the pulleys and out of the mount area. All of the spaces are way too small to squeeze the belt through. below are some pictures of what I'm dealing with. Thanks for the advice

Re: 165 L6 Drive Belt Removal

I had one of these in my 1976 signa, and replacing belts is a Bi#$h. I would remove the front motor mount by supporting it with a bottle jack on the pan and a block of wood. As I remember there was one issue I also had to remove the water pump pully, but I'm getting old and memory is not quite what it use to be. Most the time suffering from CRS ;)

serious! That is way too much work for a belt. So I guess that messes up the alignment then, and you have to pull the drive and realign engine to change the belt? Way to go mercruiser engineers!

That seems to be the norm for belt replacement, absolutely including engine alignment. Do a search on this forum for belt. Some have said to Zip tie a second spare belt on there to avoid the pain in the future.
