17" Compaq screen...turns on...turns off

I have a 17" Compaq monitor(model #PE1212) and when I turn it on, it stays on for about 3 seconds, then it turns itself off. <br />Is it just a switch or is my monitor hooped? I am capable of fixing it, if I know if it is just a switch or not. I just do not want to take it apart unless it is worth it.<br />Thanks in advance.

If the switch is bad it isnt going to be an easy fix. It is not a standard on off swith. A pulse is sent to the switch to tell it that the computer is on. This would turn the monitor light from yellow to green in most cases. I would look at the wires going to the switch and make sure the connections are all good. If this is a picture tube type monitor versus a LCD monitor be careful around the picture tube and the high voltage power supply. Both those parts stay charged with voltages around 20000 volts. Not much current there but you will know you touched the wrong spot if you touch it.

All wires are good and no splits anywhere to be found. <br />So this might be hooped then? <br />Oh, it's a 15", not a 17" like I posted, if it matters. <br />So....if it is hooped, I am going to take it out back and get the ole shotgun out and have some fun.<br />I need a little more input before I blow it away though. <br />I appreciate your input eurolarva, thanks.

Sorry brother I was just joking with you when you wanted to blast it. It would be difficult for me to troubleshoot without a schematic. <br />Did you retry the old monitor on your system to rule out a pc problem?

Yes I did and it is not the puter, it is the monitor. <br />Oh, and I am going to blast it today if no-one can help me. And it is going to be fun. Maybe I will take a before and after pic. If I do I will post them. <br />Now I do not feel like fixing it, where's my gun!
