Hello,
I İnstalled a 25 hp 97 model unused Mariner to my 17' fiber boat. At open throttle, while the boat begins planning, at the same time it is lying to the left dangerously, so I am closing the throttle. What I have to do?
Thanks
I'm assuming you mean that when getting boat on plane that rig is pulling to left.If this is the case there is a trim tab on the lower unit that can be adjusted. If rig is pulling left adjust trim tab to left.if pulling right adjust it to the right. After making adjustment water test to determine final adjustment if needed. This is assuming that motor has been mounted to transom properly on centerline and boat hull doesn't have a hook to port.
Erdem,If your boat runs too low in the bow it might tend to be low on one side or the other.
Try trimming the motor up( propeller away from the boat.
Does the boat sit level at rest?If it floats low
on the left(port) There could be too much weight on that side.Sometimes Fiberglass boats absorb
water into the fiberglass and its framing.
This can cause it to be heavy or out of balance.
Propeller torque can push the left(Port) side down but your motor is kind of small and may not cause too much problem. If there is a steering wheel it should be on the right (starboard) side.
If it has a tiller steer handle you should steer from the right(starboard side.
With the boat on a trailer check the bottom
for hooks or twists.
Good luck.
No, using term "rig"as entire boat and motor.Does the tiller seem to pull to one side when underway or does it feel free and just boat is veering left?
If tiller is not pulling and feels nuetral in hand while boat is underway then your problem more than likely cannot be solved by adjusting trim tab on lower unit. You either have a weight distribution problem, motor is not mounted on centerline, hull is hooked on boat,or hull is waterlogged on side that boat is lying to.
OB, Steelespike and Waterbugtoo;
Thank you very much for your kind explanations and co-operation. Tomorrow morning (it is 00:34 am here) I will not to pay any attention to cold and snow and I will try to solve the problem under your recommendations.
See you tomorrow.
I adjusted trim tab to center, measured and re-placed the motor alignment to center after taking the measurements of the hull, fitted trim pin to the second socket. It is better than yesterday.
In the cold winter conditions, the day ended early, the sea was rough and the weather was cold and snowy, so I couldn't finish the work. I decided to fit the trim pin to the third socket tomorrow. Still the bow is low at planing.
Erdem,Your motor is a little small for a 17 foot
fiberglass boat.Unless it is a small light boat.
Is your steering in the front of the boat?
Does it have a windshield? Is it an open bow or is there a front deck?Where is the gas tank?Battery?
Spike,
The boat is small and light
weight: 280 kg - 617 lb.
length 17'
width: 5'.5
steering only with tiller,
it is an open boat,
gas tank is at the back and starboard
25 hp longshaft is manual so no battery.
Sounds like what I call a "utility".Should be easy to get the bow up.If it refuses to get the bow up I would look for a hook in the bottom or
suspect absorbed water.
Your boat is very similar to one I had about 20
years ago It was an 18' aluminum with a 25 Gale.
The boat was lighter than yours but basically the same.It was very easy to keep the bow up.
In fact I usually ran with the gas tank up in front.I wouldnt expect yours to be as easy but
with every thing in the back it sure should
ride fine.
Just a thought but you mentioned the engine is a long shaft. Is the boat made for a long shaft engine? Measure from top of transom where motor sets to the bottom of the boat. It should measure about 25".

c/6

Hooty
