Looking for suggestion on my double eagle, i am very attached to this boat. It handles the west coast waters for salmon fishing just right. it is rotten floor transom and stringers. I plan to do a complete rebuild and paint. I want to put in a built in gas tank and fish locker if possible. Any thoughts please comment. I am a newbie and have never fiberglassed before but I am handy and look forward to the challenge.

Re: 17 foot double eagle complete restoration

T, no need to start another thread about your Double Eagle, but thanks for the pix.

Is it a 17ft or an 18ft boat? Your other thread lists it as a 18:

You can ask a mod to combine that thread w/ this 1 or vice versa, they may do it anyway, like they did last time.

A built-in fuel tank & live well can be challenging to build low in the boat, depends on how your boat is built below decks.

Be aware that a live well can change the handling characteristics of the boat (free surface effect):

And care should be taken to minimize it's impact on your boats stability: Water volume, orientation & location in the boat. All the more important since you'll be using this offshore in the ocean.

Permanent tanks above the deck, but under the splashwell are popular as is moving the tank to up under the covered bow.

It looks like there has already been some work to the deck, but if it's got soft spots, better to pull the deck & fully inspect the transom & stringers too.

As an alternative, you could consider using a portable live well, and only have it in the boat when fishing.
