Is it true that mid 90s through early 2000s that a 175 and 200 EFI Mercury are identical except for the ECU. I am told that Mercury made a 200 and detuned it with a different ECU to make a 175 to satisfy customers with the needs of a 175 and did this to save on manufacturing costs. If this is true, will a 200 ECU bring my 175 EFI Mariner up to 200. Thanks for any help and advice to all.

Nope....

Nope as the exhaust port timing is different on a 175 and a 200......

Nope as fuel curve is different due to porting. You can put the 200 ECU on it and it will run but wont increase performance much but it will increase your fuel usage...

Blocks looks the same outside but internally the port height is different between the two. If you took a 200 powerhead and hooked a 175 ECU to it you'd probably only lose about 5 HP. If you plugged a 175 powerhead into a 200 ECU you might even lose power.
